I won’t deny it – I am a bit of a perfectionist, a classic Type A personality. Now, this isn’t necessarily a bad trait to have, but can sometimes cause me to create unnecessary stress or pressure for myself. If you are also a perfectionist you have probably procrastinated when it came to getting certain projects done because you feared that you didn’t have the time to do them right or “perfectly”. So instead of doing it (what you may considered to be) wrong, you decided not to do it at all....read more
I recently returned from a 14 hour family road trip and realized once again just how helpful a little bit of organization can be. Being organized will certainly decrease your stress level and simplify every aspect of your life.
I am a huge list maker and started by planning the “usual” lists of what to pack, what needed to be done in and around the house before we left and by making arrangements for the cat as well as the plants that needed watering...
This is a difficult subject to bring up, but one that every family should address at one point. There are many aspects concerning estate planning, I would like to touch on just one part of it, which is dealing with your parent’s belongings.
I had a conversation with my mom about her cluttered basement a few years back and although it may have been a sensitive matter to bring up, she was very appreciative about my honesty...
In my last blog I wrote about how to overcome the obstacles that keep us from getting organized. Today I would like to pass on a few simple steps for you to take in order to make your organizing project a success. I have had people tell me that they are at such a loss when it comes to getting organized, they would rather not do it at all, because they are afraid of doing it “wrong”. Let me assure you....
I recently gave a presentation where I talked about the things that keep us from getting organized, how to overcome those obstacles and how you can get started. I asked everyone this: “Close your eyes and imagine your home. Now take a tour through your “mind’s eye” and walk from room to room, open up cupboards and closets and think about how you feel while looking at each space. Do you see an organized, calm space or does the image you see in your mind create a feeling of anxiety?”....

Posted on March 21, 2011 by OrganizingbyYve
Is your mail a source of frustration that keeps adding to the already out of control paper clutter in your home? Tell me, does this happen to you? – You walk in the door, the kids want your attention, you need to make dinner or run the kids to their after school activities. So you set down your mail, planning to deal with it later, but never get around to doing so and by week’s end you have several piles of mail on your counters leaving you with the feeling that you’ll never catch up....

Often times I have clients call me because they have reached a point of utter frustration. The clutter in their home has gotten so out of hand that the mere thought of dealing with it leaves them overwhelmed and unable to move forward. From reading this you might think that I am writing about people with hoarding issues, but I am not. I am writing about the average person like you and me...

Tell me, how this scenario would play out at hour home? – A friend calls and tells you that she has unexpectedly gotten some free time next week and would like to come visit for a couple of days.
What is your first reaction?....more
“Don’t agonize. Organize” - Florence Kennedy
We all have clutter in our lives. There is…
- The physical clutter – in our homes, our offices or our cars.
- The mental clutter – confused thinking that leaves us stuck, unable to function efficiently.
- The financial clutter – debt, bad spending habits, poor bill paying practices....more

2011 brings us a new year and endless possibilities to reinvent, or better ourselves. Many view the New Year as a fresh start, a time to clear out the old and start over anew. People make resolutions to get healthier, to exercise more and to finally get organized. Unfortunately most of these resolutions are short-lived as we too easily fall into old habits by the time February comes around....more

As I was sitting here thinking about the subject of my next blog it occurred to me that I haven’t really written much about where I got my start in organizing. For that we will probably have to go all the way back to the beginning – I was born and raised in Germany, which has definitely shaped the way I live my life today...more
